MUA Procedure
Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) is a highly specialized, non-invasive treatment for chronic pain patients who suffer from chronic neck, back and joint pain.

Conditions treated successfully with manipulation under anesthesia are chronic pain patients suffering from degenerative disc disease, spinal arthritis, disc herniations, chronic neck and back pain, failed back surgery, frozen shoulder, fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndromes.

How it works:
Manipulation under anesthesia works by altering adhesions and scar tissue in and around the soft tissues and joints of the painful area, to restore range of motion and mobility.  The procedure is performed while the patient is in a comfortable and safe twilight state of anesthesia, enabling doctors to perform the stretching and soft tissue treatments without discomfort to the patient.  Following MUA treatment, 4 – 6 weeks of active rehabilitation and post-operative therapy is required to maximize range of motion improvements and maintain pain reduction.  Most patients are typically able to continue their post-operative care with a home exercise program after a few weeks of supervised rehabilitation.   Manipulation under anesthesia works in conjunction with pain management, physical therapy and chiropractic care.  Most patients find that this procedure allows them to continue successfully with therapy using reduced medications, reduced frequency of treatments and more emphasis on restoration of function in their daily lives.
